APPG on Local Democracy Stakeholder Event – Wednesday 11 December, London

The All Party Parliamentary Group on local democracy, which is administered by the National Association, held its second stakeholder event on Wednesday 11 December. The objectives of these events, which are held at the House of Commons, is to influence parliamentarians and key stakeholders and promote the National Association and local councils.

The subject of new local councils in urban areas drew in attendance on the panel from Hazel Blears MP, Julia Goldsworthy MP, Bob Neill MP, Andy Sawford, LGiU, the National Association’s chief executive and Hugh Barnard, a community activist in Tower Hamlets. The event, meticulously chaired by David Curry MP, was well attended by a range of local councils and interested organisations, and also included representation from the campaign groups for new local councils in the Hampshire areas of Andover and Hayling Island.
